Thank you for using Eco Trip! We hope Eco Trip will make it easy and fun to understand and reduce your CO2 emissions when you travel and will help you make the most climate friendly decisions.
Eco Trip trades under the formal business registration name of ‘Virtual Escapes AS’. Throughout the document we will be referring to ourselves by this official name.This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of information that Virtual Escapes AS or its third party service providers collect. Please read this Privacy Policy carefully before using the Application. By accessing or using the Eco Trip application, you consent to the terms and conditions of this Privacy Policy.
What data is collected
Only the data we need to run the functionalities of Eco Trip and improve your experience is collected. The data will be used for this purpose only.Your Identity and Access
Eco Trip can be used without logging-in. However, to access account-based features, such as saving trips to the trip log and accessing premium features, Eco Trip requires you to create an account. When creating an Eco Trip account, we will typically ask for information such as your name and email address. We do not use your name in external marketing communications or any public statements without your permission.Your In-App Responses
In order for us to provide you with information on your travel related carbon footprint, we need information related to your journeys.This will include details of your trips such as start and end locations and mode of transport. Data created within the app is transmitted securely and kept securely on our cloud servers. To save this data to your trip log and to access it you will need to be logged into your account. We do not share the information attached to your profile with anybody outside of our organisation. Note: Eco Trip does not try to automatically track your travel habits. Rather, we give you complete control over the trips you wish to track.Billing Information
When you purchase Eco Trip through the Apple App Store, your payment is managed by Apple. Virtual Escapes AS do not have access to your billing info. Voluntary Communication
If you submit a support request, we may receive your email address and other information you provide related to your support request. We use support information only to provide support to you and we do not share any personally identifiable information (such as name, address, email or phone) with other companies. Information we do not collect
We don’t collect any characteristics of protected classifications including age, race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or physical and mental abilities or disabilities.Children’s Privacy

Our default practice is not to access your information. We may access or share your information in response to a specific request or to help you troubleshoot, or in order to handle an error or software bug. If at any point we need to access your account to help you with a support case, we will ask for your consent before proceeding. We have an obligation to protect the privacy and safety of both our customers and the people reporting issues to us. If we do discover you are using our product for a restricted purpose, we will report the incident to the appropriate authorities.Security practices
To keep personal data safe, administrator access to the production systems is granted based on job roles and responsibilities and limited to authorised personnel. Virtual Escapes AS restricts access to employees who have a business purpose to access personal data. For admin accounts (the ‘data controller’), two-factor authentication is used to protect access to user data. When a member of the team has their role terminated, access to all restricted information is revoked.Sale of Data
Virtual Escapes AS do not sell our user’s data.Storage of Data
We use the Google Firebase Authentication service to manage user login information. The Firebase Authentication service is run only from US data centres. As a result, Firebase Authentication processes data exclusively in the United States. All data obtained thereafter is stored on our database with Google Cloud services in Europe. When we use Firebase, Google is generally a data processor under GDPR and processes personal data on our behalf. Firebase is certified under major privacy and security standards. The Firebase services used by Eco Trip (Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions for Firebase, Cloud Storage for Firebase and Firebase Authentication) have all successfully completed the ISO 27001 and SOC 1, SOC 2, and SOC 3 evaluation process, as well as the ISO 27017 and ISO 27018 certification process.More about the Privacy and Security in Firebase can be found at: firebase.google.com/support/privacy
